Ballet Technique

Ballet 1

Dancers enrolled in Ballet 1 do not need previous Ballet experience and may be transitioning from a combination class into their first leveled class. Dancers are expected to begin to recognize ballet terminology, the positions of the body, and recall of short combinations and choreography. Ballet 1 dancers will usually spend 1-2 years in this level before moving to Ballet 2.

Ballet 2

Dancers enrolled in Ballet 2 will have 1-2 years of leveled Ballet experience and will likely have already taken a Ballet 1 class. Dancers are expected to recognize beginning ballet terminology and positions of the body, and recite the movements in class. Dancers will be able to execute combinations and choreography without the accompaniment of the instructor. Ballet 2 dancers will usually spend 1-2 years in this level before moving to Ballet 3. Some Ballet 2 dancers may also be asked to enroll in pre-pointe while in this level.

Ballet 3/4

Ballet 3/4 is a blend of both Ballet 3 and Ballet 4 level dancers. Ballet 3 dancers will have 2-4 years of leveled Ballet experience and will likely have already taken both Ballet 1 and Ballet 2 classes. Ballet 4 dancers will have 3-5 years of leveled Ballet experience and will likely have already taken Ballet 1, Ballet 2, and Ballet 3 Classes. Both Ballet 3 and Ballet 4 dancers will be familiar with all Ballet terminology and should be comfortable performing combinations and choreography without the accompaniment of the instructor and in small groups or alone. Ballet 3 and 4 dancers will usually spend 2-4 years in this level before moving to Ballet 5/6. If not already enrolled, Ballet 3/4 dancers will be asked to enroll in Pre-Pointe. Some Ballet 3/4 dancers will also be given permission to get their first pair of pointe shoes and enroll in Pointe 4.

Ballet 5/6

Ballet 5/6 is a blend of both Ballet 5 and Ballet 6 level dancers. Ballet 5 dancers will have 4-6 years of levled Ballet experience and will likely have already taken Ballet 1, Ballet 2, Ballet 3, and Ballet 4 classes. Ballet 6 dancers will have 6+ years of leveled Ballet experience and will likely have already taken all Ballet leveled classes offered at the Academy of Dance. Both Ballet 5 and Ballet 6 dancers will be proficient with all Ballet terminology and will be comfortable performing combinations and choreography with artistry and poise, alone. Ballet 5 and 6 dancers will also be enrolled in Pointe 5/6  and will remain in leveled 5/6 classes for the duration of their training at the Academy. If given permission, some Ballet 6 dancers may take their Ballet classes en pointe.
